Application Methods

Flexography

DDGraf UV Flexographic Varnish is developed for application in narrow-web, modular, and center-drum flexographic printing presses, being the dominant finishing method in the production of self-adhesive labels, tags, and flexible packaging. Its low viscosity ensures uniform transfer through the anilox system, complete coverage, and faithful reproduction in solid and fine-screen areas.

UV technology allows for immediate curing under a lamp or LED system, enabling high-speed production without ventilation or drying time restrictions. DDGraf flexo varnishes offer excellent compatibility with BOPP, PET, PE films and treated papers, as well as suitable slip properties for folding, cutting and automated label application processes.

Calandra

DDGraf Calender UV Varnish is formulated for application in UV calender machines (manual and automatic) and in offset machines equipped with a dampening bath adapted for varnish. It is widely used in the finishing of covers, cards, cardboard and duplex cardboard packaging, where high gloss with a smooth, mirrored surface and high visual impact is desired.

The UV calender applies varnish in uniform, thick layers, and the instant UV curing generates a rigid film with high hardness and exceptional gloss. The DDGraf calender line covers viscosities from 30 to 100 seconds, allowing for fine adjustment according to machine speed and substrate type.

Offset

DDGraf UV Offset Varnish is developed for application via the inking system of offset printing presses, integrating into the production process without the need for a dedicated varnishing unit. With viscosities ranging from 200 to 900 seconds, the line covers everything from smaller machines to large-format offset presses, guaranteeing homogeneous application and uniform curing.

Available in versions for conventional paper and cardboard, for plastic substrates such as PVC, PS and Vinyl, as well as a matte version, the DDGraf offset line provides a finish with excellent adhesion, scratch resistance and compatibility with post-printing processes such as cutting, creasing, folding and gluing.

Screen printing

DDGraf UV Screen Printing Varnish is designed for use in automatic, semi-automatic, and manual screen printing machines, being the only method that allows precise control of the varnish layer thickness – simply by varying the thread count of the screen used. This opens up unique finishing possibilities, such as embossing, three-dimensional effects, and special applications like Scratch Off.

DDGRAF Water-Based Varnish

Flexography · Calender · Offset · Screen Printing

DDGraf Water-Based Varnishes are formulated with high-tech aqueous dispersions, providing a superior quality finish with very low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). They are the ideal choice for industries seeking cleaner processes, food-grade packaging, pharmaceuticals, and any application where safety and sustainability are fundamental requirements.

The Green Water (WGL) line encompasses the Primer, Gloss, High Gloss, Matte, Scratch-Resistant Matte, Waterproofing, Thermal Barrier, Satin, High Resistance, and Transport families, in addition to the special Pearlescent and Blister products — precisely covering the most diverse finishing and protection needs in the graphic arts industry.

UV Primer · BOPP Primer · Laminating Primer · Matte Primer

DDGraf Water-Based Primers act as a surface preparation layer, increasing the receptiveness and adhesion of paints, varnishes, and films on substrates with low surface energy or high porosity. Each version is developed for a specific purpose:

UV Primer prepares the substrate to receive UV varnish, ensuring adhesion and compatibility between layers. BOPP Primer is formulated for biaxially oriented polypropylene films, enabling adhesion to non-porous, very low-energy surfaces. Lamination Primer acts as a bonding layer between the printed substrate and the lamination film, increasing bond strength. Matte Primer prepares the surface with a matte, velvety finish, suitable for applications that combine primer and a matte visual effect in a single step.

Gloss and High Gloss Varnish

DDGraf Water-Based Gloss Varnish provides a high-luminosity and reflective finish on printed surfaces, enhancing colors and offering efficient protection against scratches, moisture, and heavy handling. Its High Gloss version is formulated with a higher concentration of solids and advanced leveling agents, creating a mirror-effect film with high visual impact—comparable to UV varnish in certain applications, without the need for radiation curing. Both versions are suitable for food packaging, cosmetics, beverages, publishing materials, and any application where a glossy finish is a competitive advantage.

Verniz Fosco and Fosco Anti-Risco

DDGraf Water-Based Matte Varnish delivers a velvety, low-reflection finish with a sophisticated and elegant feel. It is widely used in premium packaging, book covers, labels, and luxury products where visual discretion and a distinctive touch are project requirements.
